Spray cork render in Devon

Our flagship service: natural cork sprayed onto walls inside or out. Breathable, weather-resistant and insulating, a warmer, healthier home with a finish that lasts.

What is spray cork render?

Spray cork is a finish made from natural cork granules bound together and sprayed onto a wall in thin coats. Cork is the bark of the cork oak; it's harvested by hand without cutting the tree down, and the bark grows back. Once on the wall it forms a seamless, slightly textured skin that sheds rain but still lets the wall breathe.

It's the service we're best known for, and the one we'd recommend most often for older Devon homes that feel cold, damp or both.

Why people choose it

  • Warmer walls. Cork is a natural insulator, so walls feel less cold to the touch and rooms hold their heat better.
  • Breathable. Moisture in the wall can escape, which suits solid stone, cob and older brick homes.
  • Weather-resistant. It sheds driving rain on exposed walls.
  • Flexible. It moves with the building, so it's less prone to the cracking you get with hard renders.
  • Quieter. Cork absorbs sound, a bonus on internal walls.
  • Natural and sustainable. A renewable material with a much lighter footprint than many synthetic finishes.
  • Colour options. Available in a range of colours, so you may not need to paint it at all.

Inside and out

Outside, spray cork is a protective, insulating render for houses, extensions and outbuildings. Inside, it's a great fix for cold external walls that attract condensation and mould, and for rooms where you want a little more warmth and quiet. For a smooth internal finish, see cork plaster.

How we apply it

  1. Free visit to look at the walls, check for damp and talk through colours and finish.
  2. Masking and protection. Windows, doors, floors and anything nearby are sheeted off; inside, we tent the area so the spray stays where it should.
  3. Preparation. Loose material removed, cracks repaired and the surface primed.
  4. Spraying in thin, even coats until the right thickness is built up.
  5. Clean-up, with masking removed and the site left tidy.

Common questions

Is spray cork waterproof?

It's highly water-resistant: rain runs off the surface. It's also breathable, so moisture inside the wall can still escape as vapour. That combination is why it suits older homes so well.

Will it make my house warmer?

Cork is a natural insulator, so a cork finish helps walls feel warmer and reduces heat loss through them. How much difference it makes depends on the wall, the thickness applied and the rest of the house. We'll give you an honest view for your home.

Can it go over existing render or paint?

Often, yes, as long as the surface is sound. Loose or flaking material has to come off first. We check this on the free visit.

Can you use it inside?

Yes. Inside it's a popular fix for cold walls that suffer from condensation and mould, and it also helps with sound.

What colours are available?

Cork comes in a range of colours, so many customers don't paint it at all. We can show you the options when we visit.

Does it need maintenance?

Very little. An occasional gentle wash keeps it looking fresh, and small knocks can be touched in.
